I spent the last two weeks of 2019 getting ready for the new year. This was a time for me to focus on my business, my personal goals and reflect on everything I accomplished in 2019. It was definitely the year of growth! As a professional organizer, learning from the past is so important to me. But it doesn’t mean I’m perfect at it either!
As I reviewed my year, there were two theme songs playing in my head. These songs really spoke to me, and they give a pretty good idea of what I exposed and learned.
The first was “Tubthumping” by Chumbawamba. You know the one: I get knocked down, but I get up again, you’re never going to keep me down!
This became part of my theme song in 2019. It seemed like every time I got a great momentum going, something would come along and I would be tempted to fall off track.
The old me would have reveled in that battle, complained about it. I would tell everyone how hard life was, and this song was often the reason why I climbed back up the mountain after I wasted plenty of time feeling sorry for myself. I’m proud to say that this year I did a much better job of getting back on the horse without as much self pity, and at a faster rate than in the past.
It feels good to develop this new emotional muscle, and I plan to work hard to maintain it! I will continue working on it in 2020! In business, resilience is one of the key factors that separates the good from the great.
Letting Go, Gracefully
The second song that resonated with me in 2019 was “I Will Always Love You,” by Dolly Parton. I just learned that Parton wrote this song when she left her business partner, right before she really started to make a name for herself.
In 2019, I realized that it is okay to let go of the people who are not in my corner or are preventing me from living my best life. I learned that it is ok to cut ties, the importance of forgiveness, let go and move on.
Another thing I learned is that those in your inner circle are as important as what you decide to eat. This is actually an important part of self-care. I have reexamined my “fabulous five,” the name I have given to the people who dwell in my inner circle, realizing it is not about the number but the quality of the relationships I build over time.
Finally, I started a daily log to record how I spend my time, and wow, was it ever powerful. I will continue this practice into 2020 as my two priorities that I believe will have the biggest impact are self care and better time management. And as a professional organizer, the best way to teach these skills to my clients are to model them myself!
My Goals for 2020

A little exploring on my daily walk “Japanese Style Garden”, Carmel, Indiana
Speaking of self care – I am definitely putting this at the top of my to do list for 2020. I have started a weight loss plan, exploring my diet and making sure that I get daily exercise, including walks in my my area.
Speaking of time, it is probably time for me to wrap things up. But how can I without saying how grateful I am for everything that 2019 brought me. That includes you, my Miller Organized, LLC and MyMO family. Thank you for being part of my journey. Much love, peace and happiness to you and yours in the coming year.
